- The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2021 was aired on television with a pre-taped event on Sunday, April 4. The pandemic might have kept the 2021 SAG Awards from being a typical affair, but the night was still a celebration for the best of in movies and TV.
- Due to the coronavirus pandemic, nominees and presenters gathered remotely, and comedic segments were filmed ahead of Sunday’s main event.
- Similar to Grammys, Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs, SAG was also postponed in February 2021 due to pandemics. It was also decided to be conducted last month in March, but due to avoid the conflict with Grammys and the Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs, the ceremony was once again postponed to April, finally conducting it on 4th April, Sunday.
- The Notable recipients in the ceremony included Minari and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, topping the film side with three nods each, as well as Chadwick, who became the first person to earn four SAG nominations in a single year.
- In the drama categories, Schitt’s“Creek” and “The Crown” were among the television winners for being the best ensemble TV comedy show and the best ensemble TV drama, respectively.
- In the film categories, the award for lead roles went to Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s “Black Bottom”. “The Trial of the Chicago 7” took home the final prize of the night for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
- The best supporting role-Actor award was bagged by Daniel Kaluuya for his film “Judas and the Black Messiah”.
- Unlike the Oscars and Golden Globes, winners at the SAG Awards are voted on by their peers in SAG-AFTRA.
