How to apply for Pennsylvania Learner Permit when you are below 18?

The residents of Pennsylvania who intend to apply for a Pennsylvania Driver License, first they must apply for the Learner Permit. Simple Steps for Getting Pennsylvania Learner’s Permit:

  • Step 1: After turning in to 16 years, read the Pennsylvania Drivers Manual. Prepare for the Pennsylvania Knowledge Test.
  • Step2: Visit your nearest physician or physician assistant or chiropractor to take a physical examination.
  • Step3: After the completion of the physical examination, fill the Non-commercial Lerner’s Permit application – DL-180.
  • Step4: List out the Supporting documents which prove your full legal name, Social Security Number, your Identity and your Pennsylvania residency.
  • Step5: If you are less than 18 years then take a DL-180TD application form and complete it with your parents.

Pennsylvania Learner’s Permit Applying Process (for 18 years below applicants):

  • Visit Pennsylvania’s DMV Official Portal.
  • Download the Pennsylvania Drivers Manual.
  • Prepare for the Pennsylvania Knowledge test.
  • After the successful preparation for the Pennsylvania Knowledge test.
  • Visit your nearest physician or physician assistant or chiropractor to take a physical examination.
  • After the Successful completion of the physical examination.
  • Download the DL-180 Form applying for Pennsylvania initial Learner’s Permit.
  • Fill the application form; Download the DL-180TD Form (Parent/Guardian Consent Form).
  • DL-180TD Form must be filled by your parent or Guardian.
  • Check the above mentioned required documents applying for Pennsylvania Learner’s Permit.
  • Visit your nearest Pennsylvania Driver License Center along with the filled DL-180, DL-180TD, prescribed fees, and the required supporting documents applying for Pennsylvania Learner’s Permit.
  • Submit the completely filled application DL-180, DL-180TD, and the required supporting documents to the authorized person at the Pennsylvania Driver License Center.
  • After the verification of your application form, pay the prescribed fees applying for Pennsylvania initial Learner’s Permit. (Fees can be paid by cheque or money order cash will not be accepted).
  • After paying the fees you will be allowed for Vision test or Screening Test.
  • After passing the Screening Test, you will be allowed to write the Pennsylvania Knowledge Test.
  • After Passing the Pennsylvania Knowledge Test, the authorized person will issue yours Pennsylvania Learner’s Permit with a validity of 6 months.
  • After getting the Pennsylvania Learner’s Permit, during this six months period you have to practice driving in the presence of a supervised driver for 65 hours. This 65 hours driving practice includes 10 hours night driving practice and 5 hours bad weather driving practice.
  • After the successful completion of 65 hours supervised driving practice, Download the DL-180C and it should be completed by your Parent/Guardian.
  • Visit the Pennsylvania DMV official portal to schedule a Drive test online. Or you can even book for drive test by telephone – 1-800-423-5542.
  • On the appointment day, visit the Driver License Center along with your valid learner’s permit, DL-180C (Parent or Guardian Certification Form), supervised driver’s valid License, vehicle, vehicle insurance, and Vehicle registration.
  • Take the Drive Test and pass it to earn your Pennsylvania Driver License.
